Moments of Mindfulness: What is intuitive eating?
Imagine a world where you eat when you’re hungry, stop when you’re full, and savour every bite without guilt or stress. Sounds like a dream, right? That’s the essence of intuitive eating! However, we understand that life often throws curveballs. You sleep past your alarm, chase after the kids, forget your lunch at home, or end up feeling a little unsatisfied after a meal… so we get it, these challenges can make it a little difficult to stay intuitive with your eating habits.
Intuitive eating is a philosophy that encourages you to listen to your body’s natural hunger and fullness cues instead of following restrictive diets or external rules about what, when and how much to eat. It’s about reconnecting with your inner self and truly enjoying your food.
Tips, Tricks & Reminders
If you feel like food is taking over your thoughts and impacting your behaviours around food, that may be a sign to hit the refresh button on your food mindset! But hey, we know that’s easier said than done. So, here are some easy tips and reminders to help you rock intuitive eating:
Tune into your hunger and fullness cues
When your stomach starts rumbling, that’s your body’s way of waving a little flag saying, “Hey, it’s time to eat!” Your body needs energy, and hunger is its natural sign. Listen up and fuel up!
But not all hunger is physical. If you’re finding it hard to concentrate, feeling a bit cranky, or getting a little moody, this may be your brain also letting you know that it needs some fuel. So, grab a snack and keep those good vibes going!
Step away from restrictive behaviours
Give yourself unconditional permission to eat. Yes, you read that right! No food is off limits. Let’s ditch the labels of “good” or “bad”- all food is delicious and serves to give you ENERGY!
Craving some home baked banana bread? Go for it. Salad more your vibe? Sure thing. Maybe even a delicious pack of FUNDAY? We got you sorted with that one… but you get it, it’s all about balance.
Balanced meals
Food should be fun and satisfying! Choose foods that taste amazing but make you feel fantastic.
Ensure your meals have a mix of fibre, healthy fats, protein and carbohydrates. This combo will keep you nourished and satisfied!
Mindful eating
Savour the flavours and savour the time with your food. Practice taking your time with each bite and try to limit distractions like scrolling on your phone during mealtimes. This helps you recognize fullness signals and tune into your body’s cues.
One of the joys of intuitive eating is that no foods are off limits, including sweets! Made with quality ingredients, no artificial flavours and sweeteners, no added sugar or sugar alcohols & 7g of added prebiotic fibre…FUNDAY has got the sweets to satisfy your sweet tooth for when you’re needing that extra little pick-me-up.
